Whether your venue hosts wedding receptions, exhibitions, or corporate events there are a lot of considerations you’ll need to think about before making any decisions on your flooring. With significant experience working in the commercial sector and specifically with a number of different venues, the Rivendell team have the know-how you need. We therefore thought we’d give you a head start with some of our top tips to take on board when re-flooring your event venue with our handy checklist.

Your New Venue Flooring Checklist

Interior Design

Interior design plays a large role in commercial premises, particularly where venues are concerned. Choosing a unique theme, colour palette, or new textures can help you to stand out from the crowd and can directly impact how likely an individual is to use your venue or indeed recommend it to others.

In fact, your flooring is much more important than you may have considered. Usually the second largest platform or surface within your venue, flooring allows you the opportunity to make a grand statement and a lasting impression. Think of your floors as we do; a canvas to project brand personality, set a mood, or define your venues purpose.

Determine Your Goal

The most important question to ask yourself is, what is your premises most predominantly used for? The answer to this will ultimately lead you to choose the type of materials, textures, colours, and consider health & safety regulations.

Hosting a wedding? Your reception venue will need to reflect the needs of a bride and groom – most likely their colour and décor choices. A natural flooring palette that can complement even the most brazen of wedding themes might be best.

Holding a corporate event or exhibition? Foot fall is generally high and will therefore impact on the state of flooring. If there are regular events held at your venue you’ll need to inform the team who can help choose the most appropriate materials. In fact, Rivendell have worked with one of the iconic venues in Bristol, the Bristol Beacon for many years providing sound advice and expertise regarding the most appropriate flooring for significant foot traffic and a wide range of needs.

Does your venue play host to a lot of parties? As well as the other main areas, you’ll need to consider the flooring for the bar since health & safety considerations are a must in areas likely to experience a spillage or two.

Budgets & Schedules

As with the planning of any event, budgets and schedules when looking at flooring are important.

Once you have determined your budget, have a chat with our team. With more than 25 years of experience working with a wide range of companies and organisations in the Bristol and Bath areas we can find exactly what you are looking for within budget.

Let us know upfront what your schedules are and our project management team will fit seamlessly with your schedule to give you a great result with minimum fuss and disruption.

Selecting the Right Product

As with anything it is imperative that you select the right product for the job in hand.  We offer a fantastic consultation service where a member of our team visits your venue to determine exactly what best fits your requirements. From matching your current décor to finding something eco-friendly or entirely unique we will make sure you select the right product.

In fact, we recently fitted some stunning new carpets at Wellington Barn, a luxury event venue set in historical settings, after supplying a variety of samples in a wide selection of colours to compliment any theme.

Materials

You might want to think about the desired materials before we come in, so have a look at the brief overview of their benefits below.

Carpet – creates a luxurious, welcoming, and warm atmosphere.  The design choices are particularly versatile. Often hardwearing, carpet can even be stain resistant to prevent damage and keep your flooring looking pristine despite heavy use.

Vinyl – offers a wide range of colours, textures and design options. Has the ability to incorporate logos, motifs, borders, and even mix colours to create personalised & unique designs. Slip-resistant, robust, durable, and great acoustic qualities make this a great choice.

Wood – giving a timeless classic look that offers brilliant distinction. Whether solid, engineered, or laminate it is particularly tolerant of high volumes of traffic.

Colours

The choice of colour can have a significant influence on the way people feel when they arrive at your venue. The psychology of colour is a very real thing. In fact, a colour palette can have a big impact on the mood and ambience of any commercial design scheme, completely transforming the space.

Whilst it may be perfectly reasonable to add a splash of colour to your venue, remember that it might be best kept neutral. This allows any potential client the ability to envisage their own events and ideas.

Keeping it Safe

As a commercial property there are a number of regulations in place that state, by law, that you must ensure your venue is safe for both staff, guests, and visitors. You should therefore carefully consider what type of flooring is best suited for your premises and take on board any Health and Safety requirements.

Whilst we’ll be on board to provide you with all the suitable and relevant information you might want to take a look at our Guide to Ensuring Employee & Guest Wellbeing for more information regarding your responsibilities and health and safety legislation.

Project Management

The time involved in the management of a new flooring project shouldn’t be forgotten.  We have considerable expertise in managing the installation of commercial flooring, ensuring that the whole process runs seamlessly and leaving you time to focus on the important activities around the planning of the events, weddings and conferences taking place in your venue.

Once installation is complete the team will ensure that any excess and scrap materials are removed from the premises and the venue is left clean, tidy, and ready for your next event. In addition, we provide excellent after care services that ensure the longevity of your new floors.
