New Year Interior Trends We can almost hear the chimes of Big Ben and the muffled, uncertain chorus of Auld Lang Syne sung by the nation. With the New Year just around the corner, what better time to refresh, revamp, and make over your home?

Have you made a New Year’s resolution yet? Just as we do every year, the team at Rivendell will continue to supply and fit the highest quality of flooring. So with a wave of new trends at play, why not make yours a resolution you can stick to and endeavour to make changes around your home? Read on for our pick of 2016’s top trends.

Bring the Outdoors In

Whether you attempt to aid the world with eco-friendly living or simply like the aesthetics 2016 will see the outdoors making its way into our homes.

Bringing The Outdoors InPredictions suggest that consumers will begin experimenting with bringing nature into every aspect of their home, from buying furniture which can be used both indoors and out, to large over the top greenery. We’ve even spotted interesting uses of green walls in kitchens used practically for growing herbs.

In fact, research shows that plants inside the home can actually boost productivity and host physical and mental benefits.

But what about your flooring? Well, artificial grass has become increasingly more popular, and we expect to see a lot more of it next year. The synthetic fibres are made to look like natural grass and are consequently very popular in commercial markets for both shopping centres and playgrounds alike.

However, they have become a popular investment for our homes as carpets, rugs, walls, and even furniture. So why not bring the outdoors in next year?

Geometric Designs

At Rivendell we are partial to strong colours and even stronger patterns. Therefore, much to our delight geometric designs will be at the forefront of interior trends in 2016.

Varying block colours and shape sizes can dramatically change your room as designers expect a move towards the geometric. From kitchen splashbacks to bathrooms and showers geometric tiles will be nothing short of shy.

Update your flooring, whether hallway, kitchen or bathroom with fluid geometry too and don’t be afraid to be bold and playful. Why not take a look at our luxury vinyl ranges which allow you to play with colour and design to create something truly impressive for your home? Alternatively you could opt for a beautiful patterned carpet such as those from Alternative Flooring as we detailed previously in our flooring transformations blog.

Texture

Interior Trends - TexturesThe most important thing you can do when designing a room is to ensure your home is stylish, cosy, and comfortable. The best way to achieve such a feat, and our third trend spot of 2016, is to create depths of textures.

Combine natural, soft woods with harsher metallic, which are evident in other rising trends for lighting. Faux fur rugs, and brushed velvet are both playful yet sophisticated and combined encourage relaxing silhouettes. As long as you harness a range of textiles you’ll be able to create warmth, colour, and equally as important, aesthetic interest in your home.

Don’t forget your carpet and flooring too. From carpets providing natural warmth and texture to luxury vinyl and wooden flooring (whether natural or laminate), these can help you create beautiful designs and textures not only to the sight but to touch as well.
