5 Questions to ask your Flooring Supplier before your Office Fit Out

Office flooringSelecting the right supplier or contractor for your flooring jobs can make or break an office revamping experience. These projects need to be completed according to the timescales you specify and to a very high standard.

We understand that whilst a supplier may seem that he knows what he is doing and will give you a convincing sales pitch, we believe it is so important to ask questions before any paperwork is signed to ensure you are getting exactly what you want and what you pay for.

Without being in the interior design trade, it can be tough to know what questions to ask which is why we’ve compiled a set of questions that will benefit you and keep your contractor on their toes!

1. Can you Work Alongside Interior Designers?

Whilst some contractors may not work this way, there are a whole host of added benefits with working alongside an interior designer to help you get the best possible end result. For example, it will help the whole room come together as a cohesive design, as well as helping contractors remain focused on completing their projects without getting wrapped up in the small details.

We worked with interior designer David Hutton to help create his brand new showroom. Our expertise in all types of flooring along with his keen eye for detail and his own unique style couldn’t have worked better. Read all about this amazing project here.

2. Do you have Samples Available?

You wouldn’t move into your new office without viewing it first so why pick your flooring without comparing samples beforehand? It’s easy to look at photos and decide what looks good but without actually feeling the sample and comparing it with others in person, you may end up finding the texture is completely off and doesn’t match your current furniture anyway.

If your contractor doesn’t let you see some samples, this can be a big red flag. Make sure you ask your contractor for samples on different floor types and advice for each when making your decision so you can take it back to your premises to test out the look and feel of it.

3. Can I reach you Anytime?

Whilst we can’t talk for all contractors, we always want to make it clear to our clients that they can contact us at any time throughout the project whether that’s before signing any paperwork, whilst the work is being completed, or even after the project is finished because we have your best interests at the heart of what we do.

If you have a concern, a question or just something you want to discuss with your contractor, it is important you know exactly when and how you can contact them before choosing them. Peace of mind and a stress-free experience can be just as important as the final product.

We want your carpet to last you a long time to get the best value for your money so we can also advise after the project is over on the best ways to care and maintain for your new floor.

4. Timescales – How Long will the Job Take?

We recognise you have an office to run and any major downtime is going to affect business so it’s important to get your interior renovations done quickly and out of office hours to minimise disruption to your work flow. When choosing a contractor, it’s important to discuss deadlines and potentially even specific milestones if it’s a bigger job that you need to oversee.

If and when you get an answer, do some research on the industry standard to ensure their timescales aren’t way off the mark. Whilst quick is great, you must ensure they’re giving themselves the appropriate time to complete the job to a high standard.

You will need to be sure they will do the work when you want it as you may have other tradesmen that they will need to work around. Stirling Dynamics spoke about how much they valued the speedy turn around in their case study for their office reception.

5. How will you Carry out the Clean Up After/ Contain the Dust?

Be sure to question them on removal of packaging and mess by asking about their clean-up process. Will they be using protective sheets and protecting other appliances and fittings? We think the answer should always be yes to this but we know from clients’ previous experiences that this isn’t always the case.  It’s always a good idea to not only ask if they will tidy up but also how they will protect other things such as the walls, plugs and potentially furniture.
